Grade 8 Math Curriculum Information
Here are the things your child will be expected to accomplish during the school year…
  • Understand the “.” means multiply
  • Work with integer exponents (positive numbers, negative numbers, or 0) and write equivalent expressions with exponents
  • Work with square root and cube root symbols
  • Write very large and very small numbers in scientific notation.
  • Understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems

  • Solving equations and writing equations to solve related real word problems
  • Understanding functions as rules that assign a unique output number to each input number and the graph of a function is a set of ordered pairs
  • Using linear functions (lines) can be used to model relationships
  • Understanding properties of linear functions and show them as a table, graph, equation or word story.

  • Using linear equations to graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph
  • Solving problems involving the volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
  • Understanding congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry software (e.g., given two congruent figures, show how to obtain one from the other by a sequence of rotations, translations, and/or reflections)

  • Analyzing statistical relationships by using a best-fit line (a straight line that models an association between two quantities)

  • Solving pairs of linear equations
